First Round · 18 Judges

Know your judges before they know your demo.

Eighteen people will decide your weekend. They are not one audience — they are four. A developer advocate and a growth-stage investor want opposite things out of the same three minutes. Here is who is in the room, and what makes each of them lean forward.

The five things every one of them rewards

Before the individual quirks, there is a shared bar. Clear all five and you are in the conversation no matter who is holding the scoresheet.

  1. 01Native MongoDBAtlas, vector search, aggregation, a data model that actually fits the problem — not a SQL schema in a JSON costume.
  2. 02Agents that orchestrateMulti-agent coordination, MCP, agent-to-agent handoffs. This hackathon's whole theme is orchestration.
  3. 03Proof of valueThe number: hours saved, cost per task, decisions unlocked. Especially for the investors in the room.
  4. 04Craft & DXFast, polished, deployed — and a README a stranger could follow home.
  5. 05A story you can retellEvery one of them has to explain your project to someone else later. Give them the sentence.

The MongoDB Table

10 judges

Your sponsors and hosts. They are not judging you as a customer — they are judging whether the ecosystem looks great because of you. Native Atlas, vector search, aggregation and clean document modelling are table stakes; developer storytelling is the differentiator.

SM

Steffan Mejia

Director, Strategic Developer Relations

MongoDB

Pitch it asTell it like a developer-experience story: what was painful, what MongoDB made easy, who else can use it tomorrow.

AD

Aniket Divecha

Sr. Engineering Manager

MongoDB

Pitch it asSay how it breaks. Bring a schema diagram and name the bottleneck you'd hit at 10× load and how you'd shard around it.

LY

Lai Kai Yong “Vandyck”

MongoDB Community Champion · William Zola Award 2025

MongoDB

Pitch it asMake it teachable. If someone could follow your README home, he's already sold.

BS

Blake Salvador

Sr. Solutions Architect

MongoDB

Pitch it asFrame it as a solution to a named customer's problem, not a clever build. Polish the 3-minute path.

MT

Manav Thadani

Solutions Architect, Strategic Healthcare Accounts

MongoDB

Pitch it asShow documents doing what tables can't, plus a real-time pipeline. Healthcare or another regulated vertical is a bonus.

LZ

Laura Zhukas

Project Manager

MongoDB

Pitch it asShow the plan and the pivots: what you cut on purpose and why. Coherence under a deadline reads as maturity.

SR

Shakil Rafi

Sr. Software Engineer

MongoDB

Pitch it asHave the repo open. Be ready to defend one hard technical decision in detail.

AT

Abhay Tangella

Software Engineer

MongoDB

Pitch it asKeep it honest and precise. Depth in one area beats shallow coverage of five.

AS

Aasawari Sahasrabuddhe

Developer Advocate

MongoDB

Pitch it asMake the demo entertaining and useful. If it would make a good tutorial video, you've won her.

DJ

Darshan Jayarama

MongoDB Community Champion · MongoDB Engineer, CHAMP Cargosystems

MongoDB

Pitch it asExpect real questions about scale, query plans and reliability. Answer with numbers, not adjectives.

Lane 02

Cloud & AI Infrastructure

3 judges

The platform people from AWS, OpenRouter and Vercel. They have all built developer tools for a living and have seen a thousand agent demos. What lands is a working, fast, well-architected thing — and honest talk about models, routing and DX.

BJ

Brooke Jamieson

Sr. Developer Advocate

AWS

Pitch it asUse agents for a reason a non-AI person would nod at. Bonus points for MCP or agent-to-agent handoffs done properly.

JL

Jacky Liang

Developer Relations Lead

OpenRouter

Pitch it asShow interesting model usage: routing, fallbacks, cost curves or evals. Name the models you chose and why.

TZ

Ty Zhang

Member of Technical Staff

Vercel

Pitch it asShip a genuinely fast, polished UI. Bonus: it's actually deployed, and the DX story is as good as the product.

Lane 03

Founders

3 judges

Three founders who have raised, shipped and in one case sold a company. They will forgive rough edges and punish a product nobody needs. Show the user, the wedge and the story you'd tell on day one of a fundraise.

ME

Marcus Ellison

Founder & CEO

Breadcrumb.ai

Pitch it asShow the business insight, not the pipeline. Who gets a decision they couldn't make before, and what's it worth?

PW

Peter Wong

Co-Founder

Flywheel

Pitch it asLead with a crisp founder story and a channel. Where do the first 100 users come from?

RC

Ryan Chang

Co-Founder

Chapters (acquired by Clay) · AI @ Clay

Pitch it asShow agent depth with real data: how it reasons, how you measured it, and why the naive version failed.

Lane 04

Investors

2 judges

Two people who write cheques — one early-stage venture (NEA), one buying whole businesses to retrofit with AI (Long Lake). They both convert your demo into a sentence about market size and a number on a P&L. Give them the sentence and the number.

MM

Mason Murray

Principal, Technology

NEA

Pitch it asAnswer why now, why this market is big, and why this team wins. The demo is evidence, not the pitch.

MZ

Micheal Zhang

Partner

Long Lake

Pitch it asQuantify the operational win: hours removed, cost per task down, margin up. He buys cash-flow improvement, not features.

Demo-day checklist

Run this the night before. If you cannot say all seven out loud, you are not ready.
